Abstract
chronic relapsing pancreatitis is characterized by recurrent attacks of upper abdominal pain assoc
iated with varying degree of exocrine and endocrine pancreatic dysfunction. The disease is indded
chronic, inflammatory and relapsing, and produces a wide variety of progressive and irreversible
structural changes in the pancreas.
Since there is no single cause and no consistent lesion, there can be no ideal surgical procedure.
Numerous procedures have been adviced for relief of the pain of the chronic relapsing pancreatitis,
but none of them is completely satisfactory.
This is a report of 3 cases of chronic relapsing pancreatitis treated by the procedures designed to
drain the obstructed pancreatic duct, Puestow type operation was applied in 2 patients and in one
patient DuVal type operation was performed.
The final results of the three patients are satisfactory in sense of absence of repeat attacks of pain
and gaining of body weight.
The pertinent literatures were reviewed.
